SEM3 -- Building Services II

This module introduced us to services commonly provided in a building as shown below:-
  1. Fire protection system
  2. Vertical transportation system 
  3. Mechanical air-conditioning system 
  4. Electricity generation and supply system
    These 4 topics are included in  Mr. Teh's lecture.

TASK

In this semester, we have chosen Taylor's University to carry out our case study on the topic 'Air Conditioning Systems.' Our group consist of 6 members. The task of this assignment was to explain the purpose of the building as a case study, discussing the existing type of the system, to compare and contrast the current type of air condition with an alternative and lastly, to justify our findings and select the best system for the particular building, in our case, which is Taylor's University.

Our group leader has taken the extra mile to have some photos taken from the Taylor's rooftop (fig. 1 &2). We have known that Daikin supplies Taylor's University's air conditioning system. Back to our case study, Daikin supplies chiller and VRV, is also known as Variable Refrigerant Volume Systems.

Figure 1 shows the VRV-III & Figure 2 shows the cooling tower.

The below are the 2 videos presented during our presentation in class conducted by Mr. Teh last Monday,1st July 2013. 
This is the video presented during our presentation about how the VRV-III system functions.
We understood that by presenting a video to viewers, they would have better visualization of this system.

This video explains how a cooling tower works.
It is presented to ensure viewers would understand the comparison
 between the air-cooled water chiller system and water-cooled water chiller system.

MY THOUGHTS
Through this module I have been awaken to be more cautious of safety. Without these systems, our lives would be in endangered instantly. However, we could stall time or even save the minor accidents or incidents if we are well-equipped with proper safety appliances.
